Work smarter to have more quality time at home.
Join over 300 doctors and learn how to have more time for you.
Dear friend,
If you're feeling overwhelmed and want to create more free time, then this is the place for you.
Here's the current situation:
There are 9.2 million doctors in the world. 66% are worn out at the end of the day. 55% of medical students are emotionally exhausted. Two years ago, I used to be one of those numbers.
As the demands on healthcare providers increase, it's more important than ever that we know how to look after ourselves.
In the future, the demand for your time and attention will only increase. With that demand comes fatigue, stress and anxiety.
It took me years to learn that if I don't look after myself, then I can't look after my friends, family or patients.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, then the next 5 minutes will be an important read.
Because you deserve to have balance in your life, I invite you to join over 200 people who have taken advantage of the system I've used to: work full-time as a neurosurgeon; become an author; monetise a YouTube channel; attract an online audience of over 10,000 people; become licensed to work in The United States; compete nationally in martial arts and more.
All this while raising 2 small humans, moving house a couple of times and keeping a smile on my face (only possible as a support act to my awesome wife).
But before I do...
Let me give you a quick run-through of how I went from a stressed surgeon in training, to a laid-back dad spinning a few plates, and how you might do the same.
An escape from looming burn-out
I know first hand life is short and I wanted to make the most of mine. But not at the cost of my health and happiness. I dreamt of a life where I was making my goals a reality but also had time to look after myself and my family (with no trips to the ED).
So I did what I'm good at. I read.
James Clear's Atomic Habits. Daniel Kahneman's Thinking, Fast and Slow. Dan Gilbert's Stumbling Upon Happiness. Getting Things Done by David Allen. All of Ali Abdaal's courses, and much more.
I consumed them all.
But I couldn't stop there, because something was missing...
From my experience as a surgeon, I knew many theories don't survive first contact with the real world. Especially the medical world.
"Prioritise efficiently." Great. But how do I do that when I'm being pulled in three directions at work? Or at home?
How do I change my plans on the fly when an emergency pops up? And not forget about all my other responsibilities?
Most people think that the point of being productive is to do more work. It's not. It's to have more time to spend with the people you love.
Here's a mistake of mine that I don't want you to repeat.
Armed with my newfound knowledge I could do more in less time. I then did what any type-A person would do. Do more stuff.
As people started to notice I got things done, they asked me to do more things.
You see where this is going.
Despite learning about time-blocking, the urgent/important matrix, and apps to work as my second brain, I knew I was using these new tools to overload myself once again.
So I tested, reflected and tinkered with what I learned. I kept going until I had a simple system that ran easily in the real world and produced results.
I've saved hundreds of hours over the years by becoming more efficient.
But the main benefit for me has been a peaceful mind, and time for myself and my family while still achieving my goals.
In reality, there are 3 areas to focus on to maintain a life-work balance:
- How to plan properly by understanding your psychology.
- How to execute those plans in the real world.
- How to reflect on what happened and improve with time.
If you get a handle on these 3, it's only a matter of time until you find a system that works for you.
And that's the most important part. No one can give you a cut-and-paste system to achieve balance in your life. Your life and priorities are unique to you.
Once I realised that balance in life ebbs and flows with my changing priorities, I understood that if I have a framework to be good in these 3 areas, peace of mind will follow.
So after 6 months of refining my system, I wanted to see if it could help other people like me.
The results still put a smile on my face.
Looking after yourself is VITAL if you want to be able to look after other people
All healthcare systems are struggling. We are asked to do more and more with less and less. We signed up to do this job to look after people. Often we sacrifice our well-being in the process.
But keep doing this long enough and it doesn't end well. I've seen it first-hand. Not by my minor trip to the emergency department. But from mentors who paid the highest price by doing too much.
This is where productivity comes in.
Spend your time efficiently and effectively at work. Then put those tools down and use your newly created free time to look after yourself and your family.
It's really that simple.
A productivity system will bring you peace of mind...if you do it right
The point of being productive is to create more free time, and then invest that free time in yourself.
Manage your time the right way, and you can spend undistracted time with your family and recover from the day's work.
Trust me:
You have to be responsible for looking after yourself.
Despite spending thousands of pounds on medical school, none of that money is spent teaching you how to manage your time at work or home.
But it's all well and good showing my wins.
The real question is, will this work for you?
Work Less, Live More is perfect for doctors and students pursuing time freedom
Being productive to look after yourself is powerful. Before I released this book, I worked closely with doctors around the world to make sure it would work for you too.
Here are their results so far:
Eduardo is a doctor and a dad.
He's advanced his career while being a better husband and father.
"Mr. Adi Kumar's book is an exceptionally valuable resource for anyone (and especially busy house officers and surgical trainees) seeking to enhance their time management skills and create and more fulfilling life. Since reading this book, I have been invited to give an oral presentation at an international surgical conference, I’ve had one article accepted for publication and have continued to make strides on other projects that are important to me. Notably, this has been the case while being a much better husband and father. When compared to my prior self, the stress and anxiety stemming from my clinical duties, my research activities and the incessant hurdles that come with the pursuit of a surgical career have all been significantly reduced to the point of manageability. And I attribute this directly to Mr. Kumar's approach." - Dr Eduardo Apellaniz
Thanos is a surgeon working for the World Health Organisation in Gaza.
His life is now easier while working in a high-stress environment.
"I would happily buy this book, as it has definitely made my life easier. Even if I did not adopt any of the fantastic advice inside, just reading it alone has given me the comfort that another physician, who I have never met, faces the same struggles as me." - Dr Thanos Anthanasios
Pranav is a doctor, writer and self-confessed productivity nerd (like me).
Now, work that used to take him weeks, takes him days.
"I'm Dr. Pranav Gajria, a writing enthusiast and productivity nerd. You might know me as The1stReporter on Twitter. I've geeked out on productivity for the past three years. I've watched thousands of videos on YouTube and read multiple books by pioneers in the field. Work Less, Live More stands hands and shoulders above every resource on the market. Dr. Adi has systemized an effective, scientifically backed productivity playbook that will show you how to reclaim your time and get more done in a few days than you have in weeks before. Every chapter is beautifully written and contains unique projects that show you, step-by-step, how to put into practice what you've learned. The book made me recognize the pitfalls I'd failed to notice over the years and has provided dozens of techniques to approach my daily tasks efficiently. If you're struggling to manage your time and want to get more things done in your personal and professional life, this is the book for you." - Dr Pranav Gajria
Michael is a neurosurgery trainee. He can now prioritise any demands of his time and attention with ease.
"Work Less, Live More is a wise guide I could have done with years ago! Through simple and efficient writing, Adi has managed to distil the best of psychology and productivity literature whilst (crucially) keeping it relevant to the practice that is everyday life. It is a concise scaffold to gain control of life, without the need to drown in swathes of rubbish. Although suitable for any motivated human, it should be in the hands of every medic, simultaneously benefiting the fresh student, the over-worked trainee doctor or seasoned consultant." - Mr Michael Helley
Johnathan was able to implement what he learned straight away, inside and outside the hospital.
"I have followed Dr Kumar and his teachings for some time and I was over the moon to hear he was releasing a book. I have implemented many of the book's teachings into my medical training. This book can be implemented into any facet of life in my opinion and is a must-read." - Dr Johnathan Kelly

Some people think working on being more productive is toxic.
Me?
I see productivity like a surgical tool. Use it when it's needed. Then put it down when the work's done.
To be able to stop working, you need to be confident that your time-management system ensures you won't miss the important stuff.
That's what Work Less, Live More gives you that other productivity books can't.
Having the tools is a great first step. But the next is learning when to use them. As the saying goes, "A fool with a tool is still a fool".

Frequently Asked Questions
I've read productivity books before, what's new? Other books assume your day will have few surprises. But medicine is chaotic. No day goes to plan. This book teaches you how to stay productive, no matter what gets thrown at you.
What if it's not right for me? No problem. Just send me an email and I'll refund you, no questions asked.
I'm a medical student, will it still be useful? Yes! The principles in this book can be used by anyone in any walk of life. If you read this as a student, you'll be way ahead of the curve.
I'm not involved in healthcare, will it still be useful? 100%. Each chapter has actionable advice that can be used by anyone to have more free time.
Is this a paperback or E-book? It's an E-book to reduce waste from production and shipping. It also makes the free templates I made for you integrate smoothly into your workflow.
Why should I listen to you? Who are you? I'm Adi Kumar. A Neurosurgeon working in the NHS. Using the principles in the book I have: completed neurosurgery training; been certified to practice surgery in the US; competed nationally in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, monetised a YouTube channel and more. All the while raising 2 small humans and keeping a smile on my face.
How long will it take to see results? It depends on the chapter and how quickly you do the action steps for each. Some chapters will return results instantly. Other chapters will take a week or two to see results. If you do nothing, you won't see results.
